Sportspy : Recruitment drive for referees.

REFEREES REQUIRED

AS YOU MAY OR MAY NOT KNOW REFEREE NUMBERS ARE FALLING SEASON AFTER SEASON IN ALL LEAGUES FROM JUNIOR FOOTBALL TO OPEN AGE FOOTBALL..............

Sportspy : Stable Bar FC feel the force of zero tolerance.

RESPECT – It is certainly in force

Whether you like it or not, the RESPECT initiative is certainly in force.  We agree in principle with the idea as it will ‘hopefully’ encourage new Referee’s in to the Alliance but also ensure that the current and more experienced ones’ will remain.  No team likes to have an ‘unofficial’ stand in as the accusations of bias etc will be rife amongst opposition players.

Sportspy : Another referee writes in....

Refereeing in the BSFSA in recent weeks has become a hot issue. First of all I do not wish to inflame the situation but to try and go a little way to appeasing it. I would like to see it as being Proactive. I would like to achieve something by giving an insight into the ‘life as a referee’ and hopefully players/managers/clubs will get to know something they didn’t or at least try and understand our make-up a little more. So there is not going to be any outburst of which teams are dirty and who I do and don’t like. I am also not going to hide behind a number, no name or my online name of Stumpy.

Sportspy : Another referee writes in - More respect to Refs?

What respect? I am writing in because I feel I have to agree with the previous article sent in headed – 'Respect? – A ref writes in'.  In-case players out there were thinking the comments were of a single Referee who is on his own with his comments, then you are wrong. Everything he (or she) said is 100% accurate..........

Sportspy : Respect? - A referee writes in.

Well I must be getting the wrong games this season because the ref who made the last comments must either be brilliant or the teams he has reffed must be saints. The abuse is getting worse, the attitudes are getting worse. Most teams can't even get a proper match card to you 10 minutes before kick off. Some match cards are written on a scrap of paper! Respect, my backside! Teams are supposed to pay the ref before the game, yeah right, why is it we ref's have to chase around finding the manager to recieve our fee? Zero tolerance we were told at the begining of the season.  Well look out because I'm now at sub zero tollerance. I go out there to enjoy it Mick, football is in my blood, but enough is enough!

Sportspy : Would you want to be a ref?

As a relatively new referee to the 'circuit', each week I have had the unenvious task of taking all my training on the laws of the game and put these into practice. At the start of each game I ask to speak to the teams and tell them about how I like to operate.......

Sportspy : Referee's encouraged by good start.

To follow up our pre season thoughts with regard to discipline and the new 'Respect' campaign - I would like to congratulate the players of the teams I have officiated so far for exemplary discipline - (WITH THE ODD EXCEPTION) - and for making the games competitive and a pleasure to referee. Dave Connor's efforts to cover all games with officials this season have obviously been hindered by teams' indiscretions over the past years. Perhaps now the message is seemingly getting through to the teams we will see a return of the charismatic match officials who have been noticed by their absence from the fixture list. Hopefully all of the Managers, Coaches, Spectators & Players alike finally understand that without Respect there is no Ref, and without a Ref there is no Game.

Sportspy : Respect the referee!

The attached have been sent in by one of our referees and for anybody who's interested in doing a good job there's a guide for referees assistants.  Something to ponder the next time you're wondering why you've not been allocated a ref.

Sportspy : Dissent - How to tackle it?

The Gazette tonight confirmed that 2,800 red cards and 12,700 cards equalled a windfall of £239,000 for the coffers at the Lancashire FC.  The BFSFA sees little of that so how can we cut down on their nice little earner?  The Sunday league ref's are interested in what BFSFA teams, officials and spectators think about the possibility of only the captain speaking to the match referee during a game? Should it extend to before and after?  Let's hear your views in the Shoutbox.
